Black Ops II Multiplayer Modes Overview
Match each official Black Ops II multiplayer mode to its scoring object, round structure, and first loadout question.
Official mode objectives
Activision's multiplayer modes reference describes the following Black Ops II modes.
| Mode | Primary object | First planning question |
|---|---|---|
| Capture the Flag | Take the enemy flag and defend yours | Who carries, escorts and anchors? |
| Demolition | Attack or defend two bomb sites | How does the team trade around a planted site? |
| Domination | Secure control points for score | Which flags can be held without breaking spawns? |
| Free For All | Eliminate hostile players | Which routes produce isolated engagements? |
| Hardpoint | Hold a rotating scoring location | Who enters first and who blocks approaches? |
| Headquarters | Capture and control changing locations | What is the fastest safe rotation? |
| Kill Confirmed | Collect enemy tags and deny friendly tags | Who can recover each tag without feeding? |
| Multi-Team Deathmatch | Outscore several opposing teams | How does the squad avoid being pinched? |
| Search & Destroy | Plant/defuse one bomb or eliminate the enemy | What is the opening plan for one life? |
| Team Deathmatch | Eliminate the opposition as a team | How does the team preserve favorable trades? |
Translate the mode into a class
Objective modes reward movement, protection and coordinated equipment differently from Team Deathmatch or Free For All. A Hardpoint entry class can reserve points for explosive protection and tactical equipment, while a Search & Destroy class may value information, silence and a deliberate opening route.
Use the official Pick 10 explanation to keep the final class within ten allocations. Build one class per job instead of expecting one weapon setup to carry flags, hold lanes and remove enemy streaks equally well.
Review the result by objective action
Track captures, defends, plants, defuses, tags or hill time alongside eliminations. If the team loses while individual kill counts look strong, inspect rotations and objective roles before changing weapon statistics. The mode's victory condition is the primary performance metric.
Review the official objective again whenever the lobby changes modes.
